R&D Background.

When marine organisms such as microbes, seaweeds, and barnacles are attaching on marine structures, ships, fishnets or water tanks, it causes serious damages. For example, ship’s speed decrease, greenhouse gases increase, an increase of maintenance costs, and Eutrophication increase. These problems cause an increase in farming fish’s diseases, inhibiting their growth. Therefore, antifouling paint is used to prevent these problems. However, most of existing antifouling paints use biocides such as copper compound and petrochemical polymeric binders as its main ingredients. Those ingredients discharge various environmentally harmful substances including heavy metal, environmental hormone so it becomes the main cause of marine pollution and destruction of the marine ecosystem.

FRFSI has trying to solve these problems by developing the eco-friendly antifouling paint. To develop this special product, first, we developed a 100% bio epoxy resin and applied it as a binder to establish a pharmaceutical drug delivery system with excellent antifouling effect and safety. This system delivers natural antifouling ingredients effectively for a long time in seawater.In addition, to develop this antifouling paint, we also selected only eco-friendly antifouling materials. These materials we selected have excellent antifouling effects for major target organisms such as barnacles and seaweeds while minimizing damages to the marine environments and humans. They are also safe since they are non-toxic to aquaculture fishes and shellfishes.

Product Features

Excellent antifouling performance.Through various field tests for many years, we proved the antifouling effects preventing sticking of more than 90% compared to control products in case of barnacles, and killing more than 95% before becoming adults after barnacle’s attachment.

Fast curing time with UV curing system. Develop an eco-friendly UV curing system that is completely cured within 2 hours after painting and our UV photoinitiator is eco-friendly curing agent.
